The Highline golf team finished seventh, out of the seven total teams competing, in the North Idaho College NWAC match at the Avondale golf course in Hayden, Idaho.
Northern Idaho took first place in the competition for both men and women participants. They posted a score of 584 for men and 481 for women.
For the Thunderbirds men’s team, Tyler Alwart scored 83-89 and tied for 38th place; Kaiwen Lee scored 80-89 and came in 35th place; Tyler Fullerton scored 82-85 and came in 34th place; and Derek Kapana scored 87-90 and came in 42nd place.
For the Thunderbirds women’s team, Anjali Nadu scored 91-96 and came in 19th place.
Despite the finish the team got more experience and will work to improve in the coming weeks – and that is all you can ask for in your student athletes.
When asked what the team can do to improve for next week’s match, player Jadyn Shaw said, “We can improve on not getting down on ourselves after a bad hole because personally once I know I had a bad hole I do worse because I’m in my head.”
It’s important for the team to not get discouraged, keep their heads up, and continue to practice and work on their skills.
The next time the Thunderbirds take the green will be May 14-15 in Bandon Dunes, Ore.
