Highline College hosted their fourth annual Pink Prom to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. Building 8 was transformed into a rainbow-colored space where students were free to express themselves, dance the night away, compete in dance battles, and enjoy the entertainment.
Brought to life by the Q Center, the LGBTQIA+ Task Force and the CCIE, this year’s theme was “Rainbow Renaissance: a Pride Prom Fantasy Faire”.
The 2026 edition of the “Arcturus”, Highline’s literary journal, shined at two packed release parties last week, hosting nearly 160 people and showcasing the diverse and wide range of artists within the community.
The event was a celebration of creativity, community, and inspiration.
The theme of this year’s edition was ‘Symbiotic Metamorphosis.’
As tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel have intensified, one political movement has become increasingly visible both inside and outside Iran: the royalists.
While many Iranians fear the prospect of another war, a significant number of royalists have welcomed outside pressure on the Islamic Republic, including military action, seeing it as a possible path to political change.
As healthcare access rises in costs and lowers in accessibility, college syllabus policies have fallen behind in accounting for the challenges students are facing in accessing doctor’s notes – a common requirement for excused absences or assignments.
While Highline does not have a standard attendance or makeup policy for students, faculty are left with creating their own policies in their syllabus.

On May 21, 2026, River Ahmad stood on the summit of Mount Everest. At 8,849 meters above sea level, she became the first woman from Afghanistan to reach the highest point on Earth.
She dedicated the journey to mental health awareness and to the education of women and girls in Afghanistan. For her, the mountain was a platform to tell a much bigger story.

Elections for the House of Representatives in Washington’s Congressional Districts 9 and 8 are coming up and the candidates discuss global issues.

Domestic Violence is something that many experience in silence, but Highline offers victims a voice.
“During October we elevate the voices and experiences of ALL survivors through art expression, and we encourage you to join by engaging in our clothesline project and learn how you can help survivors of domestic violence,” said Izzy Wroblewski, M.A. Student Conduct Manager.
Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner, it can be physical, emotional, sexual, economic and psychological abuse and it can happen to anyone, including kids.
The Day of the Dead is celebrated from November 1 through 2 every year and Seattle is diving in with a festival to celebrate.
The Day of the Dead, also known as El Día de los Muertos, is a holiday celebrated to honor those who have passed away with an altar full of objects in remembrance of their lives.
An altar, also known as an ofrenda, is laid out with objects such as: marigold flowers, photos, the spirits favorite food, candles, and so much more. The altar is a warm welcome for the spirits to find their way back home.
November 1 honors the spirits of children, Día de los Angelitos, November 2 honors spirits of adults, Día de los Difuntos, and at noon on November 2 is in honor of the spirits of all dead, Día de los Muertos.
If you want to make a living helping others live better, Highline has the program for you.
The college’s Personal Fitness Trainer program prepares students for careers in health and wellness.
The first year of the program requires 45 credits, with students eligible for a personal fitness trainer certificate upon completion of the class. A second year with another 45 credits can earn you an associate of applied science degree.
The program is nationally accredited by two different organizations.
First-year courses include classes on exercise fundamentals, safety procedures and first aid, adding up to 45 credits and a certificate in personal fitness training.
Highline’s librarians hope you will be floored by what the library now has to offer.
After being partially shuttered during the COVID pandemic, the library has reopened all of its floors with a wide array of resources and services for the campus community.
The library is in Building 25 and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Highline women’s tennis won the 2022 NWAC championship title with an undefeated tournament run last Sunday in Wenatchee.

The Highline Library invites the public to a virtual read-aloud series for adults called Highline Reads. This story time gathers the Highline community and creates a space for discussion about literature and media topics of interest.
All Highline Reads events are open to students, faculty and staff and the community.
During sessions, guest readers from Highline or the surrounding community read sections from their favorite literary pieces or media excerpts. Guests typically share from literary works of nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and media on engaging topics for adults.

Highline’s MaST Center hopes to increase its catch of live students this Winter Quarter.
The college’s Marine Science and Technology Center will begin offering live classes again next quarter. For more than a year, they have stayed afloat via online and virtual classes.

The Associated Students of Highline College have elected a new vice president for the 2021-2022 academic year despite delays.
Anita Wambui was the sole candidate in the special election held June 2 – 4 last week. She will assume the role of ASHC student body vice president beginning next fall.
For those who spend any time on campus, don’t take your mask off just yet.
Despite new guidance from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and Gov. Jay Inslee lifting mask requirements for fully vaccinated people in many places, Highline will continue to enforce a mask mandate for individuals who are on campus, said Nicki Bly, who is the public health director at Highline.

Highline’s annual Unity through Diversity Week returns this Monday with virtual events, following the theme “Abolition as Healing: Liberating Our Community.”
Unity Week is celebrating its 24th year through five days of events that students, staff and faculty are all welcome to join. These will run from April 26-30. The week is hosted by the Center for Cultural and Inclusive Excellence.
Nintendo recently announced that they will be releasing remastered versions (dubbed “remakes”) of the Diamond and Pearl entries to its series of core Pokemon games, after 15 long years since their original 2006 release.
The remakes, titled Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, are expected to arrive in late 2021.
Highline could see a partial return to live classes in the fall, college officials said this week, but it will depend on what people are comfortable with.
The college will spend the next few months asking students, faculty, and staff what they want to see for Fall Quarter, including a student survey to be conducted March 15-26.
While there is some hope for in-person classes in Fall Quarter, nothing is certain, Highline officials say.
And remote learning is still the basis of all current planning.
Highline has been largely remote since the end of Winter Quarter last year, due to the spread of COVID-19.
Sound Transit’s endeavor to extend the light rail to Highline is still projected to be completed on time, even in the wake of financial hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Federal Way-bound project, which began in 2020 and will include a station near Highline, came to an abrupt yet short-lived halt in the early days of the ongoing global health crisis.
