Career & Transfer Services sets students’ sights beyond Highline

Staff Reporter Jan 11, 2024

With scores of students starting new careers or focusing on transitioning to a university, it is paramount that they know they don’t have to take these challenges on alone. Here at Highline there are systems in place that can help them make sense of it all.

In fact, the amount of resources afforded to working Highline College students is more plentiful than some may realize.

The Thunderword sat down with Daniela Esan with Highline College Career & Transfer Services to get the word out about what you can expect from her department and how to get the most out of your time at Highline.

“I would like for all of our students to know what kind of resources we provide, that is what we are here for” Esan said, gesturing to the two team members beside her.

Career & Transfer Services can assist with more than just transferring to a four-year institution, they can guide you through on-campus student employment, coach you through resume/cover letter crafting, and even guide you to another resource here if you need it.

This department’s resume assistance may be the best kept secret on campus. Not only will they help with your cover letter, but you can email them to schedule mock interviews and strengthen your chances of landing your dream job, whether or not that job is on campus.

Speaking of jobs, as a student employee, you will fall under general fund or work study. Students at the Central Washington building on campus can still work under general fund, so if you are physically studying on campus it is worth it to come by and talk to them!

Esan and her team are encouraging all students to drop by and start discovering these opportunities, especially if those students are within their first three quarters at Highline College

Regardless of what questions you have, you can find their drop in hours on the Highline website. Visit them on the first floor of Building 6 or email them at careerandtransfer@highline.edu.
