Highline students who only do classes online/virtual aren’t required to fill out vaccine attestations or exemptions with the new COVID 19 requirement.
Josh Gerstman, the vice president of Institutional Advancement, said rising vaccination rates in the county prompted the change.
“We’ve learned more than 85 percent of King County residents are now fully vaccinated, including more than 77 percent of the population ages 18-34 years,” he said.
“Information that factored into our decision for online students include that vaccine rates in our region are high, and the rate of spread of the virus is low,” Gerstman said.
All students had to be vaccinated or have an exemption from previously, but this now only applies to those who have in-person or hybrid classes.
Along with the new requirement, ctcLink will also undergo changes.
“The ‘No Attestation’ Service Indicator in ctcLink will continue to be applied to those students who have not provided an attestation of vaccination or received an approved exemption,” he said. “But that service indicator will no longer prevent students from enrolling in courses that meet only online or virtual.”
Keep in mind that this requirement is for students who only take online courses.
