A new social media trend on TikTok have groups of people storming inside Scientology buildings across the country. Fashioned with Go-Pros and costumes, these people pile against doors and push themselves, dodging workers with the goal of getting as far into the building as possible.
Videos of these ‘Scientology speed runs’ catch dozens of people, in small and large groups. Part of the goal is to map the building out.
The police have gotten involved in these incidents but most of the time the speedrunners flee before they arrive. According to the Seattle Times, there has been a recent Scientology raid in the Seattle church that ended with three teenagers getting arrested and charged with hate crimes and burglary.
Scientology is a religion that believes in humans living multiple lifetimes, founded by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1950s. However, many people claim it’s just a scandal to steal money from followers.
According to the New York Times a Scientology spokesperson had this to say about the speed running trend: “It [Scientology] does not welcome individuals forcing entry, damaging property, threatening or injuring people, or targeting religious facilities for online attention.”
People on the internet joke about how reaching the second floor will lead to Tom Cruise or Xenu as some sort of final boss.
One of the most recent speedruns had people dressing up in Halloween costumes, like one of Jesus and another one with Sonic the Hedgehog.
One TikToker, Mysteriousjulia did multiple speedruns but her videos got taken down, she went silent for a couple days until she addressed the situation in a video.
Since then, Scientology removed door handles from their Los Angeles building to prevent speedrunners and will most likely keep it that way until the trend dies down.
Will these people reach the Tom Cruise/Xenu room? Who knows.
