As Highline’s softball team continues through their first season back in NWAC play, they find themselves struggling all around, in conference and non-conference matchups.
The team currently stands in last place in the west conference, with a 2-25 conference record, and a 2-33 overall record. Although, the team’s record does not reflect on the hard work these players put in every day, on and off the field.
Freshman Kayanna Shaw currently leads the team in batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage (.429/.506/.618). Sophomore Hannah Cox comes in at a close second for the team, slashing a stat line of .344/.444/.525 on the season.
The team has found struggles within their pitching this season, having a total 15.21 between their 5 pitchers for the team. However, Freshman Grace Swenson currently leads the pitching rotation in strikeouts, with 22 k’s and an average of 4.76 strikeouts through seven innings.
The team knew it would be a difficult season from the start. They find themselves struggling with team chemistry, which may cost them on the field.
