Staff Reporter Jan 23, 2025

As we are halfway through the winter sports season, Highline’s spring sports are starting to get into action. Highline’s spring sports include men’s golf, women’s softball, and women’s tennis.

Women’s tennis is by far the most anticipated sport during the spring, with them ending last year’s season as the runners up for first place in the NWAC final championship. Last season, the team went undefeated in conference play, and went 8-8 overall.

Bringing on six new freshmen, with three returning sophomores, this group of nine ladies will be the largest in team history. The team has a solid core with sophomore returners Caley Buchan, Sophie Crosby, and Henleigh Elder.

They are led by head coach Laura Rosa, alongside assistant coaches Makoa Rosa and Danielle Mendoza.

Freshman Jeslyn Berry said, “I am ecstatic to play my first college season, it’s going to be a whole new mindset to get into, with the differences between highschool and college. I will do whatever it takes to better myself and fight for the NWAC championship title.”

We hope to see lots of growth within this team, and hope they are able to capture the championship this season!

Next up, men’s golf is set up for an exciting season. They stand with seven men on their team, with notable returns from sophomores Kaden Clark and Keaine Silimon. The team is led by head coach Steve Turcotte and assistant coach Tony Willis.

Last season the team finished eighth overall, racking up nine points during tournament play.

They started out their pre-season in October, hosting the Highline Invitational in Lakewood, Wash. Highline was able to take fifth overall, with a total score of 649.

We sure hope to see Highline’s men’s golf shape up to be a fine team in this 2025 spring season.

Lastly, women’s softball. They are excited to have a fresh start in the new year. Last season the team folded after only playing four games.

This young team shows lots of excitement for the season. Although they had last season cut short, they bring back players Hannah Cox and Nina Sprinkle from last year..

Led by head coach Kevin Whitehouse, along with assistance from Genevieve “LU” Mederios, Winter Ridgeway, and Julia Toone.

Softball has gotten to play some non-league preseason matches before they start their season, with no available information at press time.

Freshman Jazmine Plummer, a current catcher/outfielder for the team said, “This will be an exciting season, we’ve got about 11 girls on our team with lots of strong players. I’m hoping to win some games!”

Look forward to see what this team has to share on the field, and what they will accomplish in this upcoming 2025 season.
