Getting to know local Washington musicians

Pearl Lwin Staff Reporter Apr 11, 2024

Music is truly a universal language that anyone can enjoy. Regardless of language barriers or personal differences, musicians from all around the world share a culture of sound and style that creates a beautiful connection between one another.

With endless genres to choose from – like Hiphop, Pop, or Jazz – there is a style of music for everyone. In the Washington community, we get a taste of a wide variety of genres from some awesome local creators.

Let’s get to know your local artists!

LunarST

Lunar is a solo R&B Hip-hop artist whose love for music started all the way back in his elementary school days where he would write some simple rhymes in his notebook and beatbox at his school’s talent show.

His cousin later taught him how to produce beats, and he then started writing his own music at 15 years old. Now with two albums out, “Eclipse” released in May of 2021 and his second album “Lakeland” released January of this year, his rhythmic vocals and instrumentals can attest to the long way he has come.

With another project in the works, Lunar plans to release more melodic driven songs with catchy choruses and hooks as well as music videos later on this year. In the future, he wants to make his music global, so people around the world can hear his spirited sound.

“I believe so strongly in the quality of my music that I believe it has the potential to reach many people globally. I want to stay local and try to contribute to a healthy music culture and community in the Seattle area. This is because our scene isn’t too popular in comparison to other cities,” he says.

He truly is an admirable artist who believes in his strengths and wants to utilize that to empower other local musicians. LunarST is someone you should definitely go check out and listen to on all streaming platforms.

From LunarST to you: “Stream my latest album ‘Lakeland’ on all platforms as of Jan. 22. I wanna remind everyone reading to just do the things you love. Forget about what others think and just be selfish about your life. Make decisions that will bring you the most happiness. Everyone deserves to be happy.”

253 RPL

253 RPL is a solo, R&B rap artist who started making music in 2021, during the Covid pandemic. He always had a feel for music, and wanted to take advantage of the extra time the pandemic left him with to create music of his own.

Initially, he started off with rap, but because of a girl he had a crush on, he wanted to impress her with R&B. Because of her, he was able to discover his love for the latter genre.

For 253 RPL, music gives him mental relief. “Making music and writing lyrics is a form of therapy for me. I grew up an only child, and that gave me a lot of time to be introspective in my thinking, and I feel like that is shown a lot through my lyricism. I paint pictures using my emotions and scenarios that have happened throughout my life. I try to be as real as possible with what I say in my songs,” he explains.

His songs mention a variety of themes like conflicted emotions, heartbreak, and love he himself experienced. The feeling he wants to express reflects clearly in his use of beats, samples, and poetry he raps.

He recently dropped an album in February of this year, titled “Midnight Melodies.” Currently, he is working on a four song EP titled “Rich Player Lifestyle” which will drop on April 12. He is also working on another album which is a collaboration with the artist TB Nino.

“Both of these projects are an evolution of my sound, and are way different than anything I have out right now,” he said. This is an exciting feat for 253 RPL and an exciting thing for his audience to look forward to!

In the future, he mentions one of his biggest goals is to have a sold out U.S tour and to be one of the biggest artists in the world so people can be impacted and inspired by his music, and to be someone kids can look up to as a role model. He has some big dreams and a long way to go, but with his talent and attitude not only as a musician, but as a person, he has the potential to achieve it.

A message from the artist himself: “Thank you to anyone that has listened to my music and has supported me through the process. I love every single one of you.” His music is available on all major streaming platforms, so take the time to go check him out!

You can follow him on his Instagram as well for updates.
