Thunderbirds secure wins in thrilling encounters against Centralia and South Puget Sound

The Highline College men’s basketball team brought thunderous victories in their recent back-to-back games, besting teams from Centralia and South Puget Sound this previous week.

The matches put the player’s talents on display as they showcased not only individual prowess but also the power of collective effort and teamwork.  

On Feb. 14, the Thunderbirds clashed against Centralia College in a riveting showdown at the Thunderdome. The game witnessed a seesaw battle, with Highline edging out Centralia in both halves. The final score of 83-73 in favor of Highline underscored the team’s perseverance and strategic gameplay. 

The starting lineup, spearheaded by veterans like Amari Jackson and Bradley Graham, alongside promising freshmen including Nick Robertson and Isaiah Vargas, set the tempo for the Thunderbirds. Their combined efforts on both ends of the court laid the foundation for victory. Noteworthy performances from Cooper Aitken off the bench added depth to Highline’s roster. 

Just three days later, on Feb. 17, Highline College faced off against South Puget Sound College, where they continued their winning streak with a commanding 72-60 victory. The Thunderbirds displayed unwavering willpower and skill, dominating the court from start to finish.

Amari Jackson’s double-double performance, coupled with Bradley Graham’s explosive scoring, fueled Highline’s offense, while Nick Robertson showcased his defensive prowess with key steals and rebounds.

The contributions from Rylon Donovan and Isaiah Vargas added further strength to Highline’s arsenal, securing another impressive win for the team. 

These victories underscore the Thunderbirds’ ability to rise to the occasion, especially when faced with formidable opponents. The players’ relentless dedication and cohesive teamwork have been instrumental in securing two crucial wins for the team. 

Looking ahead, the Highline College men’s basketball team is gearing up for their upcoming games. They will face Tacoma Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. (with results not available at press time). The game will take place at the Tacoma Community College venue. 

Following that, the Thunderbirds will take the court at home against Lower Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., bringing the excitement back to the Thunderdome. 

With their recent victories fueling their momentum, the Thunderbirds are poised to continue their winning streak and make their mark in the competitive realm of college basketball. 

As the season progresses, supporters can expect to witness more electrifying performances from the Highline College men’s basketball team as they strive for excellence and pursue their championship aspirations.
