Do you find the beginning of a new quarter stressful? If you do, don’t worry, you’re not alone

The shift from the winter quarter to spring quarter was so short that it was ultimately inevitable for the rise of stress to occur among Highline students.

There are various different things about a new quarter that can cause students to feel stressed and overwhelmed, such as financial burdens.

“New classes and tuition are big contributors to stress. I always feel as if I’m going to fall behind and it causes me to be on edge,” said one anonymous student.

Many students agreed that those are some of the biggest factors that contribute to the stress that they feel.

“Tuition being paid on time, so I don’t get dropped from the class,” said another anonymous student.

Other students brought up other factors of stress that maybe some of us don’t take into consideration.

“Classes and commuting,” said a first-year Highline student.

Furthermore, some students were asked about the things that they do to ease or cope with their stress.

Some students shared that they just find it easier to push through the stress, rather than to do other things.

“There’s very little that helps me ease my stress; hanging out with friends work as a distraction but it’s far more likely I’ll pull my baggage into the conversation,” said an anonymous student.

“I just try to suck it up and continue,” said a first-year Highline student.

Others take the route of stepping away from schoolwork and their devices.

“I go outside to enjoy nature (backyard, trail, or park),” said an anonymous student.

Some students even take a more religious approach to the situation.

“Pray and go to church,” said Highline student Micheal Ryzhicehenko.

These can all be things that some of you may find helpful if you are struggling with easing your stress through the school year.

So just remember that if you are ever feeling stressed or overwhelmed about school work you are not alone. Ask fellow students what they do to ease their stress because it just might help you.
