Lady T-Birds soccer dominated Grays Harbor and tied with No. 1 Lower Columbia in last week’s competition.

Highline shut out Grays Harbor 9-0 in Aberdeen last Wednesday.

The team netted a season high of nine goals in a single game. The Lady T-Birds stand fourth in total goals for the league with 33.

Highline demonstrated the depth of their roster with six players contributing to the scoreboard. Highline’s Cassandra Decker and Kayla Ness led the team with two goals apiece.

According to Head Coach Thomas Moore, despite a strong performance on Wednesday, the Highline roster has been diminished due to injuries.

“I think most of the players understanding how we want to play makes it easier for us to compete and not miss too much due to injuries,” said Moore.

On Saturday, the top teams in the NWAC West battled it out and tied 1-1.

The second-ranked Lady T-Birds struggled to knock off the first, Lower Columbia, in their last regular season meeting.

“It was a hard fought game as you would expect between the first and second place teams,” said Coach Moore.

In the first period, Highline’s Elena Pinto scored a goal in the second minute with an assist from Liv Teves.

The Devils responded in the 20th minute with a goal from Molly Romanchock assisted by Adalie Schierscher.

“We came out very strong and scored early, which is what we always want to do. We have to get better on defending set pieces as we gave them a goal I’m not sure they deserved at that point in the game,” said Moore.

Both teams made an early goal followed by a whole lot of hustle. Highline made 18 shots with a .056 shot percentage to the Devils’ 13 with a .077 shot percentage.

“We had a lot of opportunities but couldn’t get the ball to the back of the net,” said sophomore Elena Pinto.

The Lady T-Birds struggled to get another goal past Lower Columbia goalie Kyla Pires, who had eight saves.

Now, Highline is 7-1-3 in conference play and remains second in the NWAC West.

The team has a bye week to recover and get ready for a playoff run, said Moore.

“We need to stay mentally sharp and physically healthy in order to get where we want to go.  We have a tough climb ahead of us to make sure we remain focused to make the playoffs,” said Moore.

“Having a week off means we are able to let girls heal who need it after a hard fought battle against Lower Columbia,” said Pinto.

The Lady T-Birds are planning to execute this weekend and keep moving forward, said Pinto.

Highline women’s soccer is back in action against South Puget Sound on Saturday, Oct. 15. The game starts at noon in the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey, WA.
