Highline programs now hiring

Severiano Garcia Staff Reporter Sep 29, 2022

Several Highline organizations are offering employment for students that have the drive.

On September 28th, 2022, as part of Thunderweek, Highline held a job fair where students could learn about several employment opportunities. These opportunities vary from tutoring students with their classes to working at a desk.

There are dozens of positions available, and the funding sources for these positions may differ.

General fund employees receive payment from an allotted budget that may differ between departments.

Students often find convenience in working on campus.

“They’re looking for part-time jobs on campus at the same place where they work,” said Zeba Ghanchi, a career consultant with Career Services.

Work study employees earn their pay from financial aid funding, and do not necessarily need to work on campus.

The MaST Center Aquarium, Highline’s aquarium facility, is looking for biologists and life support for their animals, but they must be able to apply through work study.

Most positions require you to have a 2.5 GPA in your classes, but some jobs, like the public speaking tutor position for The Academic Success Center requires a 3.5 GPA in an appropriate course to be eligible.

International students also may find additional challenges, as they are not allowed to work during their first quarter and must complete International Student Programs Orientations.
