The Highline women’s golf team placed second in their own tournament last weekend and look forward to improving their play at the Grays Harbor Invitational this weekend.
At the Columbia Basin Invitational, Highline placed second in the competition. Freshman Brooklyn Grant, scored 88-82 and finished fifth. Sophomore Faylisa Valle scored 101-88 and finished 11th. Freshman
Paige Unke shot 117-105 and finished 14th.
Last weekend, Highline hosted the Highline Invitational at the Twin Lakes Course in Federal Way. The Thunderbirds took second and Bellevue College took first among three teams.
Ashlynn Verhaaren shot 94-87, a school record 39 for the front nine of her final round with three birdies. Verhaaren also finished fifth in the tournament. Brooklyn Grant shot 93-91, finishing 8th.
Faylisa Valle shot 99-99, placing 11th.
Coach Turcotte commented on the team’s progress in recent weeks.
“The best part was their driving. They all drove the ball well, but we need a lot of work on the short game and putting,” said Highline Head Coach Steve Turcotte.
The four-player squad is working to improve their play, step by step, said Turcotte.
The Highline golf team walks the green this Saturday and Sunday at the Grays Harbor Invitational.
