Aviso, a new software that tries to aid student retention, is being implemented to help students, faculty, and staff at Highline.
Student retention is the measure of students’ academic success, or completion at the same school. An institution with an improved student retention rate indicates that the school is improving the student experience.
The student retention software identifies students who may be struggling and provides alert features to staff and faculty, who can then provide support and guidance to the students.
“The goal of Aviso is to make it easier to connect with each other, and to make supporting students, especially remotely, a more seamless process,” said Shawna Freeman, the interim associate dean for Student Learning and Success.
Students will be able to access the software by using their regular login through a mobile app, similar to Canvas and ctcLink.
“Through this software, students will be able to work with their advisers and be partners in creating their academic plans,” Freeman said. “When students log into Aviso, they will be able to see all of their advisers and communicate with them directly about any question or concern they may have related to their college journey.”
Another support service that will be offered to students through Aviso is access to multiple advisors at once.
The goal of this networking software is to reduce the number of students going to multiple officers for one issue or question.
“Aviso will help everyone connect to each other more effectively and efficiently,” Freeman said.
The software is in its early stages of implementation but is expected to be fully implemented for students by Fall of 2022.
