Highline spring sports have come to a close on a mostly positive note, with games able to be played and not cancelled for COVID.
This week’s results:
Men’s basketball: The men’s basketball team lost their final game to Tacoma, 77-62 last Friday.
Stats were unavailable at press time.
This loss snapped the T-Birds’ seven-game winning streak, putting them at a final record of 7-2 for this season.
Women’s basketball: The women’s basketball was set to play against Tacoma on Friday, May 21, however the game was ultimately cancelled.
The Lady T-Birds finished their season with a record of 5-3 and finished with the second-best record in the NWAC west.
Softball: The softball team ended their season below .500 at 4-6 after two losses to Lower Columbia last Wednesday.
In the opening game, Lower Columbia defeated Highline 9-4.
S. Edwards led the T-Birds with four RBIs on a grand slam in the third inning.
In the second game, Lower Columbia defeated Highline 12-0.
Men’s soccer: The 5-0-1 T-Birds wrapped up their season versus Tacoma on Friday, May 21.
Highline dismantled Tacoma 3-1, with goals scored by Alex Velasco, Julius Nguyen, and Zane Baumgradt.
This caps off Alex Velasco’s sensational season, ending with nine goals and 29 total points scored, leading the NWAC in both totals, as well as assists.
Women’s soccer: The women’s soccer team played its final game versus Centralia, on Friday, May 21.
The Lady T-Birds beat Centralia 1-0, with Taylor Nelson scoring the only goal in the match.
This ends their season with a 5-2-2 record, earning them second place in the NWAC West, behind Bellevue.
Volleyball: Highline finished its season at 4-4, losing 3-0 to Lower Columbia on May 12 before blanking Centralia 3-0 on May 13.
