Gale began Highline College as a Running Start student in 2025, and began writing for The Thunderword that spring quarter. This is Gale’s first experience with any literary profession, and she is thrilled to be a part of this team! Outside of writing and studying at Highline, she enjoys acting, fish-keeping, reading and being with her friends and family. She intends to graduate in 2027 with an AA-DTA, and transfer to a four year university (hopefully the University of Washington, Tacoma.)

Tommy Wallach debuted with his 2015 novel “We All Looked Up”, and despite the soap opera written on the page, between the lines is a story about philosophy, the meaning of life, and that you never have to let the world define who you are. It’s a book that can simultaneously make you roll your eyes and make you bawl on the same page.
The book centers around high school kids in Seattle who are very archetypal in their characters.

Petco, the first chain that comes to mind when someone says “pet store”, serves 24 million people in the U.S. Walking through a pet store means passing by the aquatics section and seeing the shelves of betta fish (scientific name betta splendens) in their separated cups.
It’s uncomfortable, and it desensitizes consumers to seeing bettas in less-than-ideal conditions. However, keeping bettas in cups is a lot more dangerous for the fish — and sparks a lot more passionate controversy than the regular Petco customer may realize.

Election season is in full swing, and with that, King County Elections has a lot on the calendar! With new voters especially, there are a lot of questions regarding the ballot.
Here, you can find opportunities to engage with other voters, get logistical questions answered, and participate in this upcoming election cycle.
Election Day is on Nov. 3, 2026.

Juniper Blessing was tragically murdered in the laundry room of her off-campus apartment at the University of Washington, Seattle on May 10, 2026. While much of the press circulating around her is about her murder and the horrificness of Christopher Leahy’s crime, in doing so, Juniper becomes a number, a headline, a statistic.
Juniper, however, is fondly remembered by her peers, her family, her vocal coach, and her loved ones back in New Mexico. Juniper’s legacy is one to be celebrated and remembered.

“Project Epic Furious: Strait To Hell” is an 8-bit, retro Zelda-styled computer (and cabinet!) game made by The Secret Handshake, who are also infamously known for their other protest art installations, e.g the Best Friends Forever statue at the National Mall, or the golden toilet at the Lincoln Memorial.
They installed the Project Epic Furious cabinets at the D.C. War Memorial for public interactions, and also put the game up on a web browser for online play-ability.

In the Federal Way School District, AI is a tool that is being embraced and encouraged by educators and administrators alike – and Colleague AI is a tool that is springing into action for both.
Colleague AI is an online LLM that, unlike public user models that function as an ask-and-answer tool (e.g Gemini or ChatGPT), Colleague AI is built like a domain. Colleague AI can be used to create graphics, worksheets, quizzes or surveys, and create chatbots for assistance in brainstorming. Colleague AI was introduced years prior, but there’s been an emphasis on the district reminding the teachers it’s a tool that is available for them, should they want to use it.

When stepping into the high-tech, bright-light world of galactic sci-fi media, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start. Ryan Gosling’s one-man show “Project Hail Mary”, might be the way to go.
Space sci-fi is infamous for its convoluted, intricate scientific systems, its beautiful visuals, and its big, philosophical questions it tries to answer. However, that can be a lot to a new viewer of sci-fi. One of film’s most engaging components is how easy the concepts – ‘sciencey’ or simple – can be understood by the non-seasoned space film vet.
