Men’s basketball looking to bounce back after some tough results

In the heart of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), the Highline College Thunderbirds have been navigating a challenging season, showcasing resilience and determination on the basketball court. 

In their recent game against Bellevue College, the Thunderbirds faced a tough challenge. Despite a promising start in the first quarter, Highline eventually fell short, with Bellevue securing a 74-64 victory.

Standout performances came from Isaiah Vargas, who contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Bradley Graham, adding 16 points to the scoreboard.

In their most recent matchup against Peninsula College, the Thunderbirds engaged in a closely contested game, resulting in a 77-75 loss.

A drawn first quarter set the tone for the competitive match, but Peninsula managed to edge ahead in the second quarter. Highline’s Nick Robertson and Amari Jackson emerged as standout players, with Robertson securing 14 points and 9 rebounds, and Jackson contributing 15 points. 

Despite the challenging nature of their recent games, the Thunderbirds hold the fourth position in the NWAC west conference with a record of 9 wins and 6 losses. The season has been a test of their mettle, but the team’s overall performance suggests the potential for a strong comeback.

As the Thunderbirds navigate the latter part of this tough season, the collective effort of the team is commendable. Isaiah Vargas, Bradley Graham, Nick Robertson, and Amari Jackson have been instrumental in keeping the team competitive. Overall the team’s hard work and dedication to their craft does not go unnoticed, and the hope is that they can bounce back and return to top form. 

The road to redemption for Highline continues as they prepare for their upcoming game against Pierce on Jan. 10. With the lessons learned from the recent challenges, the team aims to turn the tide and regain momentum in the NWAC west conference.

Support from fans and the community remains crucial as the Thunderbirds strive to showcase their true potential and climb the conference standings.
