The Highline women’s volleyball team beat the No. 5 Clippers and No. 4 Trojans, edging them closer to the division title and postseason play.
Last Wednesday, Highline had a slow start but came back around to beat South Puget Sound 3-2.
At the Clippers’ sophomore night, the home team came out swinging. Highline struggled to handle the heat, giving South Puget Sound the first two sets 25-16 and 25-20.
The Lady T-Birds showed poise and grit by taking the next three sets 25-11, 25-14, and 15-11.
It was a great outing for sophomore Khadijah Morgan who finished the game with 13 kills and sophomore Bethany Tuchardt adding 12 kills. Setter Madison Maafala demonstrated her sophomore leadership by setting her teammates in scoring position with 30 assists.
Last Friday, Highline faced No. 4 Tacoma in an NWAC West match up.
In the first set, Highline soared past the opponent with a score of 25-8.
The Trojans held back the Lady T-Birds, winning the second set 25-23. But, Highline sealed the deal in the third and fourth set 25-18 and 25-14.
In the win over Tacoma, Madison Maafala had an outstanding 31 assists. Khadijah Morgan finished the game with 14 kills and Angelina Pham added 11 kills.
Highline is 9-1 in conference and is currently tied for first place in the NWAC West with Lower Columbia.
On Wednesday, Highline hosted Centralia at 6:00 p.m. with results unavailable at press time. Highline recognized six sophomore players in the last home game of the season.
On Saturday, Highline will travel to Lakewood, WA to challenge No. 3 Pierce. The game starts at 6 p.m.
Both Highline and Pierce have clinched playoff spots and are looking to end the season off strong, said Highline players.
