The Highline women’s soccer team shutout South Puget Sound, keeping their No. 2 ranking in the West secured.
Last Saturday, the Lady T-Birds had a field day against the Clippers beating them 10-0.
Yet again, Highline records a season best 10 goals in a game and continues to lead the NWAC in shutouts.
The team displayed the talent of their roster with six players contributing to the scoring total.
Freshman Loris Desebele led Highline with 4 goals made and a 1.000 shot percentage. Sophomore Ashley Teofilo added two goals and put her teammates in scoring positions often with 3 assists.
“Everyone on the team was locked in defensively by not letting players get past them,” said Midfielder Loris Desebele.
Highline dominated throughout the game with 22 shots to the Clippers 1.
The team moved to 8-1-3 in conference play and remains No. 2 in the NWAC West.
Recording a win after the tie with top-ranked Lower Columbia the previous week has not changed the team morale, said Desebele.
“Lower Columbia was our best competitor and the way we played, with the confidence we played and the opportunities we had; we should have won that game. But now it’s just making sure we keep working hard,” said Desebele.
The Lady T-Birds’ hard work has not gone unnoticed. For the second week in a row, Highline women’s soccer ranked No. 4 on the NWAC Coaches’ Poll via the league website.
The team goal is to beat opponents and score as many goals as we can for the rest of conference play, said Desebele.
This week, Highline will play on their home turf at the Starfire Field in Tukwila, WA.
Wednesday’s match against 7-5-1 Pierce was canceled due to unhealthy air quality in the Seattle area.
On Saturday, Highline goes up against 7-3-2 Centralia, the match begins at 2 p.m.
“We can not afford to lose. We just need to play our game and trust each other, work hard and have fun,” said Desebele.
