Highline women and men won a well-fought game Wednesday night, taking Tacoma Community College down once again.
In the Feb. 25 matches, the men and women played their hearts out on sophomore night. The men won 98-86, a game with high energy and grit – a stimulating one to be at. And the women clutching up 60-57, a definite nail biter and a game getting people out of their seats.
In the women’s game, Freshman Nevaeh Richardson and Jeralynn Sevaaetasi both scored in the double digits, Richardson chalking up 16, and Sevaaetasi procuring a huge 27 points.
After the game Richardson said, “We should have been winning by more, we were the better team and we were down at half but we stepped up. Our defense was getting broken down in the first half but we regrouped at half and stepped it up. We weren’t going to lose tonight.”
Both teams absolutely played like their lives were on the line, making sophomore night a memorable one. With the win, the women made it to the playoffs.
Richardson stated how she felt leading up to this moment. She said, “I’ve been nervous because we are a team of all freshmen and it’s been nerve-racking but we made it happen, we’ve grown so much as a team and we all work together so well and use our chemistry and togetherness to get the win.” A well deserved one.
The women might be out of the woods, but the men have a fight this Saturday, Feb. 27 against Centralia to try and get their playoff spot secured.
