Cinderella Day was hosted for the first time this year by Cinderella Project Seattle which is a student-run and volunteer based community organization inspired by similar initiatives across the U.S. and Canada.

Cinderella day is dedicated to providing free formal wear to teens and young adults for life’s biggest moments like prom, graduation, ceremonies, and job interviews. This event was about so much more than clothes. The organization wanted to create magical moments and help them gain confidence celebrating their youth.

During this event the attendees were able to look through racks of formal clothing in all sizes and styles, there were also a few tables full of beauty and hygiene products. The attendees were also offered a variety of multiple snacks and drinks during the event.

One of the attendees, Liv, a sophomore in high school, said “ This event is important because people who can’t afford to buy or rent dresses for every formal event, it’s nice to have something to fall back on.”

The organization was building a space where young people can feel seen and supported no matter their circumstances. They removed the financial burden of worrying about money, so that teens can feel their best during each milestone moment whether that is by wearing formal clothes or having new shoes for the occasion.

This event was a great way of helping the community as the organization was created because of Seattle’s rising cost of living, limited affordable housing, and cuts to youth programs have made it increasingly difficult for young people to fully enjoy events like prom and graduation. They aim to offer a sense of belonging, joy, and normalcy that every young person deserves.

Another attendee, Zelda who is also a sophomore said, “The event was important because it promoted community and was good for those in need who didn’t have dresses or hygienic items.”

The event’s main purpose was to help youths find their confidence and celebrate their special milestones in clothes that make them feel their best. Although this was the organization’s first event that they have hosted, it’s safe to say it was a success in helping the teenagers and young adults that attended.
