A cold winter break didn’t stop Highline’s women’s basketball team from continuing their grind on the courts. Over the break, the Thunderbirds participated in four matchups – a highlight was playing in the SWOCC Crossover in Coos Bay, Ore.
These ladies had some hard matchups over the break, and sadly did not win any of their matchups. However, they continue to show grit in their playing style.
Although these ladies have shown struggle throughout the season, that doesn’t discredit the hard work our athletes put in during their matchups.
During Highline’s matchup against Olympic College, sophomore Anaiya Lewis put up 18 points overall, with sophomore Ramaya Sumler trailing close behind her, ending the night with 12 points.
Highline has come on top with individual statistics. Freshman Taylor Watkins is currently seventh in the league for rebounds per game, with 9.7. Sophomore Jada Alexander has 15 blocks through the season, putting her in second place for the league in blocks.
Jeslyn Berry, a student athlete and basketball fan says that “They keep you on edge of your seat, every game is very intense.”
Through the trials and tribulations of these ladies’ seasons, they have shown true dedication to their sport. This team leaves everything out on the court and shows true values of being an athlete at Highline.
The Thunderbirds will play their next matchup at Pierce College on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. Their next home game will be against Centralia College on Jan. 18 at noon.
Go T-birds!
