Are you interested in data science? Wondering where the data comes from and how it’s compiled. Are you fascinated by AI and wonder how it works? You can get all these questions answered in the new class Highline college is offering this winter. 

Introducing a new computer science class being offered called CSCI 180: Introduction to data science. No prerequisite is required to enroll in the class. It would be offered in-person Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. taught by Professor Helen Burn.

According to professor Burn tech requirements have increased and Highline is offering more classes to keep up. 

CSCI 180 was designed because a professor from UW showed concerns to Professor Burn fearing that transfer students were going to fall behind when they transferred into a 4-year university because colleges don’t offer a deeper understanding of data in a two year associates programs. 

The class would help you deepen your understanding of data and where it comes from and how it is calculated. It will also give you a look into how artificial intelligence works, “Demystifying AI by teaching students how it works,” according to Burn. 

The basic foundation of the class is built by University of Washington’s foundational data science class, CSE 180.
