Highline Public Safety warned people on campus to secure their vehicles after an increase in car prowling and crime in the college’s parking lots.
In a campus-wide e-mail on Monday, Public Safety recommended specific actions to help protect your car and your valuables:
Roll up all windows and lock your doors, move valuables out of sight, and if you can, install anti-theft devices. Steering wheel locks can be an inexpensive option.
Call Public Safety at 206-592-3218 (ext. 3218 for on campus phones) if you see someone looking into vehicles. You can also use the blue emergency phones which dial directly to Public Safety and will forward to 911 if somebody does not pick up.
You can also call Public Safety to request an escort service to your vehicle if you feel unsafe (this is a 24-hour service). “You don’t have to walk alone in the dark,” said Public Safety. “We’re only a phone call away.”
