Through the first half of the season, the Highline Volleyball team has shown how strong the core of their team is and that they are a powerhouse in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC). Thunderbirds have put up an impressive 19-1 record thus far, placing them squarely on top of the NWAC West Region

Highline Volleyball is currently in the middle of an 18-game win streak, while boasting an impeccable 13-0 record when playing at home and going a perfect 3-0 against conference opponents.

Throughout the season, the team has put up incredible numbers: recording 917 digs, 756 kills, and 686 assists.

Some early season standouts include sophomore Madison Mamizuka who has recorded an average of 9.9 assists per set – ranking second overall in the conference, and sophomore Aspen Olson, who has averaged 1.0 blocks per set – coming in third in overall conference standings.

In the match played last Friday night, Sept. 20, the Thunderbirds took on Pierce College, winning in three straight sets – continuing their perfect at-home record.

Freshman Matilyn (Queen) Royal put up stunning results with a .318 hitting average and nine kills. Sophomore Destiny Labuanan dominated the defense with 14 digs and 3 aces. Mamizuka had 18 assists, earning her the title of NWAC setter of the week.

In the latest match, on Sept. 25, the team swept Lower Columbia 3-0, with further individual stats not available at press time.

These Thunderbird athletes bring tremendous pride to Highline Athletics, and have set the stage for a dramatic end of the season, with their sights on a conference title.

Thunderbirds Volleyball will take on conference rival Centralia College Trailblazers at 6 p.m. this upcoming Friday, Sept. 27, at home.

Come out and support your Thunderbirds!
