In a thrilling conclusion to their regular season, the Highline College women’s tennis team triumphed over Bellevue with an impressive 7-0 victory, clinching the top spot in their conference and securing a coveted place in the championship title match.
With their eyes set on the prize, the team displayed exemplary skill and determination on the court, leaving no doubt about their readiness for the challenges ahead.
Captain Reily Cordova, a driving force behind the team’s success, shared her insights on their journey to the top. “The key to our success this year is our dedication to disciplined practice. We all show up when it’s necessary and give our all to practice and weight training. Each and every one of us loves tennis, and that passion fuels our performance,” said Cordova.
Despite facing the season with a lean roster of just six players, Cordova emphasized the team’s unity and resilience. “With only six players on the team, each one of us plays a vital role. That dynamic has driven us to train even harder and support each other through thick and thin. Our positive attitude, both on and off the court, creates an environment where success is inevitable.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) championship tournament on May 11 and 12, Cordova stressed the team’s commitment to continuous improvement. “We’re focused on preparing for the NWAC championship tournament,” she said. “These next two weeks of practice will be crucial as we fine-tune our skills and strategize for victory. There’s no time to rest on our laurels.”
Reflecting on their aspirations for the championship, Cordova expressed her eagerness for redemption after last year’s second-place finish. “We’re determined to go all the way this time. We’re hungry for the championship title and won’t settle for anything less.”
As for her personal journey beyond Highline College, Cordova revealed her plans to pursue higher education at the College of Idaho while continuing her tennis career. “I’m excited to continue my education at the College of Idaho and play tennis for the team there,” said Cordova.
