Highline open house welcomes students to learn about bachelor degrees

Staff Reporter Apr 29, 2021

For students wrapping up their associate degrees, a bachelor degree program through Highline is a feasible next step, said one BAS program coordinator.

And everyone is free to learn about these degrees, at the Bachelor of Applied Science open house.

This open house is on May 11, 5:30 to 7 p.m. over Zoom.

“Prospective students can expect to learn about all of the BAS programs offered at Highline,” said Tammi Hilton, department coordinator for the integrated design BAS. “They will have time to meet with the individual coordinators to ask questions. There will also be information on admissions and financial aid applications.”

The open house will also feature a panel of students currently pursuing BAS degrees, who will share their experiences so far.

Six four-year degrees are currently available at Highline: cybersecurity and digital forensics, early childhood education and elementary education, global trade and logistics, integrated design, respiratory care, and youth development.

For Hilton’s program, the newest of BAS degrees at Highline, things have been going well.

“This is our second year of the program and we will be graduating students this spring,” she said. “Many have started looking for jobs and some have already received job offers.”

“Last spring we went completely virtual due to the pandemic. Even though there have been challenges, we have made the best using Zoom to hold classes,” Hilton said.

Questions about the four-year degrees are encouraged at this event.

“You will be able to ask specific questions that relate to your needs,” Hilton said. “The open house is a great chance to meet the coordinators and faculty to find out about the programs.”
