An amount of 12 tons (the weight of a school bus or an African elephant) of limited edition KitKats were stolen last week, now nowhere to be found. The KitKats were en route to be delivered to their destination Poland from Italy where they were manufactured. The official KitKat X (formally known as Twitter) account released a statement confirming the heist that had taken place.

According to an article by Forbes these weren’t ordinary KitKats – the normal confections we have loved and seen. These were specially made to resemble a Formula 1 car and are limited edition.
In KitKat’s official statement they stated “We are working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate.”
People on social media have spread this news like wildfire making jokes in light of this news. Instagram user @successwithattitude stated, “We got the KitKat heist before GTA 6.”
Forbes states, “Instead of hitting store shelves, they appear to have hit the black market.” According to the article, “the vehicle was intercepted by individuals posing as law enforcement,” taking the delicious treats all for themselves.
KitKat has even gone as far to release a tracker site where you can enter the eight digit batch number located right under the expiration date to see if your chocolate is part of the stolen goods.
While others think that this might be a practical joke or marketing scheme. Instagram user @apdpfilms asks, “Who is behind this campaign?”
While many are still unsure of who these thieves are, one thing is for certain, gold and jewels aren’t the only thing being stolen for profit – even chocolaty confections have a place in the black market now.
