Although the regular season has ended for both Highline men’s and women’s basketball, league play is starting for both teams. The men’s team faced Green River on Wednesday, Jan. 7, which was an unfortunate loss for the team; but the boys looked like they had a lot more connection and chemistry huddling at each dead ball.
Sophomore forward Jackson Owens, while commenting about the regular season, said, “We had our ups and downs during the regular season but we have been working hard at practice as a team and coming together to get ready for league. I want to make it to the tournament again.”
At the end of the regular season the women’s team had an exhilarating overtime game against Whatcom College with an unfortunate and upsetting loss by two points. The men finished their regular season with exciting wins against Peninsula College and Olympic College.
With both of the Highline basketball teams having enthusiastic regular seasons, putting in so much work, league play is sure to have you on the edge of your seat. Owens is really looking forward to beating teams that were lost to last year in league.
“I’m especially excited for league because I want to give Lower Columbia and South Puget Sound a run for their money. But I’m excited to face all the teams in the west conference, especially with our new players and our new goals,” said Owens.
Highline is playing Pierce College on Saturday, Jan. 10, at home. Come out and support the team – the Thunderdome is sure to be loud.
