The Highline’s men’s soccer team is gearing up for its new season following the defeat at the end of last year that saw the Thunderbirds skill clash with bad luck. Now, they are fueled up for the 2025-2026 season, with a solid foundation, a new roster, and returning Coach Skyler Roehr. So far, they have won all but a single tie in the early season.
Some new faces include Daniel Hernandez, Kyle Goodrow, Raef MacNeill, Carlos Murillo Pavon, Cristian San Juan, Alonso Ramos, and Dominic Moreno. All players are now officially part of the Thunderbird family. These new recruits bring a renewed energy, and a desire to prove themselves.
The team has their work cut out for them in the new season. The schedule is full of challenges and opportunities. Familiar matchups with teams like Clark, Tacoma, and South Puget Sound are looming. Luckily, the team is off to a great start.
Last year showed us what this team is capable of. This year, it’s personal. T-Birds don’t just aspire to be good: they also pursue greatness.
Whether it was a resounding road win or a crushing victory at home, the Thunderbirds men’s soccer team displayed energy, skill, and a big heart every time they stepped onto the field last year. The 2024-2025 season was special for the team. Week after week, the T-Birds excelled, posting a dominant 14-2-1 overall record, including 13-1-1 in the conference.
After sweeping the regular season and clinching a playoff spot, Highline’s postseason run came to an abrupt end with a 2-1 overtime loss to Walla Walla in the NWAC quarterfinals.
That last game was a nail biter. T-Birds started with the lead, and had the opportunities that usually shape a victory. Unfortunately, the ball just didn’t bounce their way. It was a tough pill to swallow, but this loss did not erase what the team accomplished over the season. For the T-Birds, it’s more fuel for what’s to come.
