Do you love theatre, watching musicals, listening to musical soundtracks, and discovering new shows? If so, then one of Highline’s newest clubs might be just the club for you! On Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m., in Building 7, the Drama Club will be meeting weekly starting June 10.
Drama Club is a space for students at Highline to socialize and discuss musicals, plays, and any other theatre-related activities that interest them.
The founder and President of the Drama Club, Amelia Povalok, started this club to help Highline students with varying theatre experience to learn the history of theatre, have discussions revolving around theatre, and engage in improv workshops. These workshops would help “build confidence in the club and its members as the club goes on,” according to Povalok.
Other club officers include Alinea Kirshenbaum as the Vice-President and Ellis Darrow as the Secretary.
In the future, the Drama Club hopes to put on original plays in collaboration with other Highline clubs and attend theatre-related events in the area, such as “Shakespeare in the Park” in Tacoma, which is a free event in August where anyone can enjoy a picnic and watch a Shakespeare play. This year, the show will be “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
Drama Club will continue to hold meetings over the summer. Keep your eyes peeled on campus for future Drama Club involvement, and if you are interested in joining the club, you can reach out to the Drama Club officers by filling out this form. We hope to see you on a Tuesday in the future!
