The Grammys kicked off last week with multiple performances from renowned artists, many of which went home making history in the process.
After so many years Beyoncé was finally able to win the most prestigious Album of the Year along with Best Country Album with her “Cowboy Carter”. Beyoncé came into the Grammys with the most nominations for her albums. She is the most nominated artist in Grammy history with 99 throughout her career. Beyonce won another Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her song “II MOST WANTED” featuring Miley Cyrus.

Kendrick Lamar was one of the biggest winners of the night, going home this year with a whopping 5 Grammy awards, including: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap performance, Best Rap Song and finally Best Music Video. Kendrick Lamar is now one of the top three Grammy winners as a rapper, right behind Kanye West and Jay-Z. Kendrick also performed at the 2025 Super Bowl. Doechii has officially become the third woman in Grammy history to ever win the Best Rap Album with “Alligator Bites Never Heal”. Lauryn Hill was the first female artist to win in this category, when she won in 1997 with the Fugees. With Cardi B following twelve years after and now Doechii six years later.
Some of the best performances came from first year Grammy nominees like, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, and Charli XCX. All of these artists were also nominated in multiple categories, all of them winning a Grammy.
A new artist who was nominated multiple times and has won her first Grammys this year, Sabrina Carpenter, now owns two Grammy trophies. She took home the awards for the Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “Espresso” and Best Pop Vocal Album for “Short n’ Sweet”.
Her album “Short n’ Sweet”, became her first to debut atop the Billboard 200, produced the top-three Hot 100 singles “Espresso”, “Please Please Please”, and “Taste.”
The nominee who won Best New Artist of the Year, Chappell Roan, is known for her aesthetic that is influenced by drag queens and camp, and she’s known for her theatrical performances. Roan won her first Grammy as the Best New Artist of the Year. She was also nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year and three other categories.
Charli XCX, one of the newer artists who was nominated for multiple categories, performed “Von Dutch” and “Guess”, two songs from her Grammy winning album “Brat”. After winning Best Dance/Electronic Album she also won Best Dance Pop Recording for her song “Von Dutch”.
Some of the other main category winners like, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga who won Best Pop Duo/ Group Performer award for their song “Die With A Smile”, Shakira won Best Latin Pop Album award for “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran”, SZA won the Best R&B Song award with “Saturn.”
Some big names were nominated this year, but left with no awards. Taylor Swift, one year removed from winning a record-breaking fourth Album of the Year Grammy for her album “Midnights”, was nominated for six Grammys for her newest album, “The Tortured Poets Department”, but came away from the night empty handed.
Billie Eilish was nominated in seven categories in the Grammys but was not able to take any home this year. While not winning in any categories, Billie Elish performed her song “Birds of a Feather” that then became Spotify’s most-streamed song of 2024 and then peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Grammys have had another successful year with multiple crowd-pleasing performances and so many heartfelt speeches from award winning artists.
