In a resounding victory, the Highline College women’s tennis team dominated their home opener against Bellevue College, securing a 7-0 win.

Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, Sophia Crosby, a freshman hailing from Grantsville, Utah, shared her insights on the thrilling match and her experiences as a newcomer to the Thunderbirds. In an exclusive interview with the Thunderword, Crosby expressed her exhilaration at donning the Thunderbirds jersey for the first time on home turf.

“I was very excited to have our first home match,” she said. “It felt good to be wearing the T-bird uniform on our home court!” Crosby’s enthusiasm was palpable as she recounted the thrill of playing in front of supportive fans and representing her team with pride.

For Crosby, the transition to becoming a student-athlete at Highline presented its own set of challenges, particularly being a newcomer from out of state. “It has been a challenge to be traveling and playing matches while dealing with homework and not having fans at home to cheer us on,” she revealed. Despite the hurdles, Crosby’s determination and passion for the sport shone through, driving her to excel both on and off the court.

Reflecting on Coach Laura’s post-game remarks, Crosby revealed the coach’s mix of pride and encouragement. “After the match, Coach Laura expressed how proud of us she was but also said ‘Don’t be satisfied’,” Crosby recounted. With their coach’s words fueling their motivation, the Thunderbirds are poised to continue their relentless pursuit of excellence.

Looking ahead to their upcoming clash against Spokane Community College, Crosby and her teammates are focused on maintaining their momentum and securing another victory. “We have continued to push ourselves so we can hopefully secure a win this weekend against Spokane!!” Crosby exclaimed, extending a heartfelt invitation to fans to come and support the team.

The team takes on Spokane Community College at the Boeing Employee Tennis Center (located at 6727 S 199th Pl in Kent) at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday, March 16.

As the Highline Thunderbirds gear up for another showdown, the anticipation is high, and the team’s determination is unwavering. With Sophia Crosby’s inspiring debut and the collective spirit of the team, the future looks bright for Highline College women’s tennis.
