Highline men’s basketball triumph in season opener

In an electrifying season opener, the Highline men’s basketball team showcased their resilience and determination, securing a hard-fought victory against Wenatchee Valley with a final score of 97-90.

The game, held at Highline on Nov. 21, provided a rollercoaster of emotions for fans as the team faced an early deficit in the first quarter with a score of 40-29.

However, Highline bounced back emphatically in the second quarter, outscoring Wenatchee Valley to end the half 51-40. The intensity continued during the second half, ultimately leading to triumph for Highline.

Bradley Graham, one of the standout players of the game, led Highline with an impressive contribution of 26 points, playing a pivotal role in the team’s victory.

Keaine Silimon demonstrated a good all-around performance, contributing 12 points and securing an impressive 12 rebounds. His defensive skill was further highlighted with four steals in what was a challenging game.

Nick Robertson showcased his scoring abilities, adding 17 points to Highline’s overall tally.

Highline’s ability to come back from a challenging first three quarters underlIned the team’s resilience and collective determination. The players, guided by standout performances from Graham and Silimon, demonstrated a cohesive and tenacious effort on the court.

Shane Rivera, reflecting on the game, acknowledged the team’s initial rustiness and identified areas for improvement, particularly in defensive strategies against ball screens.

Cooper Aitken, when discussing the team’s goals for the season, expressed a collective ambition to secure the NWAC title. Additionally, he emphasized the team’s focus on individual growth and cohesion, with a broader goal of preparing players for potential transitions to 4-year institutions.

As the season progresses, the team aims to build on lessons learned during the preseason. Adapting to the transition from high school to college, the squad prioritizes coachability and adaptability, emphasizing the importance of implementing strategic adjustments during games.

The Highline College Men’s Basketball team’s thrilling victory in the season opener sets an exciting tone for upcoming games. Supporters can anticipate a season marked by growth, resilience, and the pursuit of both individual and collective excellence on the court.
