Highline’s Arcturus magazine invites Dr. Mosby to speak in a literary salon on Arcturus art pieces. 

Arcturus is Highline’s literary and art magazine run by students.

The literary salon will take place Thursday, March 2 from 1-2 p.m. via zoom. 

“Any students and staff at Highline are welcome to attend. They can participate in the open mic or just enjoy the poetry,” Arcturus editor Jasmine McCray said.

The literary salon is solely for presenting Arcturus pieces and spreading the word about Highline’s magazine, McCray said.

“The salon is to promote Arcturus and for writers to be able to share their work,” she said. “It is a poetry and prose reading and an open mic.”

“The term ‘literary salon’ was coined by Dr. Mosby. It is a time for writers to share their work and talk about poetry and prose,” she said.

Highline’s president, Dr. Mosby, will be participating in the event with the goal of voicing and honoring the artwork by the Arcturus editors.

“[I am] currently halfway through my 5th year as president. I love poetry, literature and was an English major in college,” Dr. Mosby said. “And we have such talented students, staff, and faculty here who create such beautiful work. It’s time to celebrate their work and share with [the] rest of campus.”

McCray said her biggest challenge was finding a location for where the event would be held.

“The biggest obstacle I dealt with while planning the salon was deciding whether or not the salon should be held on zoom, in person, or both,” she said. “We were struggling to find a place to hold the event and time was running out. In the end, we decided to zoom because it was the most accessible.”
