Latinx/Hispanic heritage month is from September 15 through October 15 and Seattle is taking part in it.
The month honors the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries: Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica on September 15, Mexico on September 16, Chile on September 18, Belize on September 21, and Día De La Raza on October 12.
Día De La Raza, day of race, is celebrated to recognize Indigenous and European heritage in Mexico.
The SeaMar Museum in Seattle hosted an in-person tour of Chicano/a/Latinx/a culture and history last month on September 30, 2022 in celebration for the month.
Seattle Center also hosted a two day festival called the Fiestas Patrias last month on September 17 and 18.
Fiestas Patrias (a Spanish phrase meaning “National Holidays”) celebrated the Latinx culture and independence of the countries through enjoying Latin American food, live music, Zumba, and traditional dance performances. This year’s theme was based on emerging stronger together.
Seattle still has a Latino Film Festival and Centro De La Raza’s 50th anniversary events going on through October for Latinx/Hispanic heritage month.
Seattle’s Latino Film Festival will be from October 7 through the 15.
The films are at various cinema locations with the upcoming film Gaspar at the MOPOP Auditorium on Friday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. Another film of Mulata will be at the Bellevue Art Museum on Sunday, October 9 at 2 p.m.

Centro De La Raza’s 50th Anniversary event will be on Saturday, October 8 from 5-9 p.m. at the Washington State Convention Center.
Centro De La Raza’s 50th Anniversary event is a fundraising gala for the community and will include food, live music from the Mexican American band Banda Vagos, and an online auction.
