Highline students observing Ramadan say it may not be as challenging as it might look from the outside.
“With discipline it is very doable. The first few days are harder than the rest of the month though,” said former Highline student Mohamad Basmeh.

Everyone has their own personal definition of Ramadan and what it means to them and their family. Each person might have a different experience based on their family traditions and events.
“To me, Ramadan is the holiest month of the year. We try to cleanse ourselves from bad habits and remind ourselves of the basic things we take for granted, such as food and water. It is also a time to strengthen our relationship with Allah”, said Basmeh
“For someone who has never heard of Ramadan, it is a month for us to devote ourselves to our prayers, lord, and spirit,” said Highline student and Arab Club President Sereen Alhaj.
Formally, Ramadan is a holy month of worship and fasting, it is a time for Muslims to test their self discipline.
Nowadays, there are many resources that can be used to educate about the month of Ramadan.
“Highline students can utilize the Arab Club to schedule a one-on-one with one of our members,” said Alhaj.
“I find lots of videos on Youtube that are super easy to understand. Also asking fellow Muslims in your life is a great way to learn,” said Basmeh.
