Highline welcomes the world next week

Ashley Nand Staff Reporter Feb 10, 2022

Highline Welcomes the World Week takes place beginning Monday, Feb. 14, with virtual events throughout the week.

One of the reasons why the Highline Welcomes the World week-long celebration is so successful is because “the events are providing opportunities for the Highline community to learn more about each other and learn about important topics happening in the world right now,” said Jenn Ritchey, a program coordinator.

This year’s theme is UN Sustainable Development Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being.

“The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were created to help move the world forward with important development goals while also considering the health of the planet. Considering the challenges we have all experienced in dealing with Covid-19, it’s particularly relevant that this goal and events were all chosen this year,” said Ritchey.

Everyone is welcome to these events, and everyone should come to these events, she said.

“Our hope is that there will be representatives from all throughout the Highline community (faculty, staff, students, and community members) attending these events. Because we all live in a globalized world, it’s important for all of us to understand how the events happening globally have impacts on us locally,” she said.

Events for the week will include:

An update on refugee programs by Jennifer Malloy from the Washington State Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 14.
