The Highline’s men’s soccer team came away with a victory in their second game of the season at Starfire field against Tacoma with a score of 4-0 on April 16.
Earlier that Friday, the women’s team played a close game at Starfire against Tacoma, battling to a 1-1 tie.
The matches leave the men’s team at 1-0-1 on the season, while the Highline women are 2-1-1.
In the men’s game, Zane Baumgradt got Highline started fast with a goal at the two-minute mark, assisted by Alex Velasco.
Velasco then scored the next two goals for the Thunderbirds. He hit at 10 minutes, with an assist by Miguel Hernandez, giving Highline a 2-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Velasco got his second goal at 70 minutes, off an unlikely assist by goalkeeper Sam Prusynski, putting them ahead 3-0. Baumgradt came back again and scored the last goal 85 minutes, assisted by Velasco.
For the women’s game, Tacoma took a first-half lead on a goal by Zyree Raban. The Thunderbirds were able to come back in the second half when Andrea Guiton scored in the 54th minute, assisted by Myka Carr.
The Highline’s men’s team next hosts Bellevue at noon, Tuesday, April 27 at Starfire in Tukwila.
The Lady Thunderbirds host Centralia on Friday, April 23, also at noon at Starfire.
