NWAC doubles champions: Highline players Riley Cordova and Kinsey Lockhart.

During the championship weekend, Thunderbird Kinsey Lockhart was named NWAC player of the year after the incredible season she had.

T-Birds Riley Cordova and Kinsley Lockhart during the championship weekend also won the NWAC doubles championship title.

Highline’s tennis head coach, Laura Rosa, believes this season for the team was perfect even with the losses they faced and praises the team and they joy they were to work with.

“The season was perfect, which may be hard for folks on the outside to understand since we finished in second place. This team over-performed every single day and in the end, at the championship match, we played our absolute best,” said Rosa.

“I cannot remember a team that improved, or fully bought in, more over the course of a single season. We were young with only one second year player and in the end that was probably the difference between us and Bellevue in the championship match.”

“This team was a total joy to work with. They fully and completely supported and trusted each other. They conducted themselves with class and grace at every turn and worked every day at practice like it might be their last day on the court,” said Rosa.

Now that the season is over, Head Coach Rosa and the rest of the tennis coaching staff are now sitting back and planning for next year’s season and team, as well as supporting their team to finish the academic year strong.

“This summer our coaching staff will sit back and start planning next year. We know that we have a strong recruiting class coming in and will have great leaders from our players this year who are returning for a sophomore season. For now, we are still just enjoying this team and focused on supporting them finishing strong in the academic year,” said Rosa.
