Doubleheader ends in disappointment for Highline’s softball team

Highline’s softball team faced off against Edmonds College in a doubleheader this past Thursday. In the games, which were rescheduled from April 11, the Thunderbirds fell to the Tritons 13-3 and 12-3, respectively.

In the first game, Edmonds College came out strong with their batters displaying remarkable performances. Jaelyn Myers, playing as right fielder, led the offensive charge for Edmonds, going 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 runs. 

Taiana Round, Nanea Andrade, Jordyn Relethford, Sydney Rucshner, and Taylor Eskew also contributed with hits, adding to the team’s total of 12 hits for the game. Grace Humes even managed to hit a home run, providing a significant boost to Edmonds’ score.

Despite the loss, Highline’s Jazlyn Furuya, Trinity Marion, and Abigail Wilkins managed to collect hits, with Marion and Wilkins hitting doubles. However, the team struggled to convert their hits into runs, resulting in a final score of 13-3 in favor of Edmonds.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Tritons continued their dominance on the field. They showcased an impressive offensive display, accumulating a total of 20 hits. 

Jaelyn Myers, Sydney Rucshner, Nanea Andrade, and Jordyn Relethford all had outstanding performances, contributing multiple hits each. Nanea Andrade and Alessandra Monarrez even hit home runs apiece.

The Thunderbirds struggled offensively in the second game, managing only one hit from Haeley Diehl. Corrina Cunningham, the pitcher for Highline, had a challenging outing, facing a formidable Edmonds lineup. Highline’s Trinity Marion also had a tough time at the plate, but managed to draw a walk to reach base.

The final score of the second game was 12-3 in favor of Edmonds College, completing the doubleheader sweep.

With these losses, the Highline College softball team’s hopes for the championship and playoffs were dashed. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to secure a victory against Edmonds College. The team’s remaining game against Douglas College, has already been played at the time of press but the results are not available yet.

Although no comments were available from the players following the games, the team’s dedication and commitment throughout the season should be acknowledged. They showed resilience in the face of adversity, and their efforts have undoubtedly contributed to their growth as athletes.

As the softball season draws to a close, the players can reflect on their accomplishments and continue to strive for excellence in future seasons.
