“Yugari-sou no Yunna-san” (July 2018, Xebec) is an anime about an exorcist boy moving into a haunted inn.

The show follows a hands-on exorcist by the name of Kogarashi Fuyuzora (voiced by Yuuki Ono) who is able to see the ghost of Yuragi inn named Yuuna Yunohana (Miyuri Shimabukuro). Being forced to stay in the same room as Yunna, they get closer to each other and are even pushed by some of the inn goers, except for a few.

The growth of Kagarashi and Yunna’s relationship is very wholesome, with Kagarashi initially going there to exorcize Yunna, however ending up not sending her to heaven but instead opting to help her finish her lingering regrets.

In anime art direction is fundamental to having a visually appealing show, and this is one of those shows that pull through. The way that they draw the characters is full of characteristics, the main gang of females are all different mythological creatures, and a viewer would be able to determine what most of them are.

The music is very lighthearted and fluttery when the time calls for it, then it gets chaotic and steamy due to the number of lewd scenes. Music is always important to a show just like art and what the production studio chose works out wonderfully with the show.

Another fundamental thing that this show nails are voice actors, after all, Kogarashi constantly screams in this show which comes at the cost of the voice actor’s ability. They did a phenomenal job portraying falling from several hundred meters toward his demise. Voices with the help of music can shift the emotion of a scene on a dime, like with Nonko (Ai Kakuma) constantly being very risqué on several accounts.

Besides those, there aren’t a lot of good points to this show, as a matter of fact, there are quite a few glaring negatives in this show.

The amount of ecchi, lewd or sexual in definition, scenes is fairly up there, with every episode the viewer feels bad with the amount of pain that Kogarashi is put through. Especially with a lot of child-like characters in the show also occasionally being a part of those scenes it just doesn’t give it a good rep.

Let alone this is another one of those teen “romantic,” in heavy quotations, shows even though it ends up with nearly every scene containing lewd imagery in them, it gets rather boring.

Besides the amount of sexual content in this show, it feels very rushed and not paced out at all, none of the characters have any depth, if anything it’s all surface-level.

If a viewer enjoys mindless ecchi anime then this show is for them, however if they want to watch something else, please do.
