The deadline to register to vote online in this year’s election is Monday, Oct. 26.

If you are 18 a citizen and a resident of Washington state, you can register online at https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/register.aspx.

All you need is valid state ID. 

You can register in person up to the day of the election, Nov. 3, at your county elections office, which you can find here: https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/auditors/.

The King County Elections office, http://www.kingcounty.gov/elections, is at 919 SW Grady Way, Renton. It is open weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All voting in Washington state is conducted by mail-in ballot. Despite President Trump’s claims that this will lead to massive voter fraud, Washington has used this system without incident for more than 10 yearss.

“We have been doing it for 15 years,” said State Rep. Tina Orwall, D-Des Moines. “We have established a well working process for mail-in ballots. We feel confident it will work in this election as well.”

Orwall said the process is transparent.

“No system is perfect, but we do have a lot of checks and balances, and you can certainly go to the King County Elections office and watch yourself,” she said.

Orwall encouraged everyone to vote.

“It really is the foundation of our democracy and everyone is participating,” she said. “In a time where people don’t feel heard, it’s a way of expressing your voice.”

Even if you’re not yet old enough to vote, if you are age 16 or 17, you can now preregister online and you will be registered when you turn 18. Visit https://voter.votewa.gov/WhereToVote.aspx to register.
