It was a great start to the week for the Thunderbirds men’s basketball team, who took on Pierce College at home, and came out with a big win. When the clock struck zero the final scoreboard read 73-67.

The Feb. 7 match saw the Thunderbirds take the lead in the first half 39-29. And while the second half was a super close matchup which ended with Pierce beating Highline on a narrow 38-34 lead, the differential was too much for the Raiders to overcome. Ultimately, the Highline men won the day.

The Pierce game had some really great individual efforts that are worthy of praise. The end of the game saw Isaiah Vargas come out with an impressive 17 points and 10 rebounds. Bradley Graham, who is a regular on the team sheet and has been very consistent for coach Johnson’s side, ended his shift with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Nick Robertson, another standout player, registered 22 points against Pierce, showcasing his ability to step up and play when called upon. The Thunderbirds have shown great character this season, by showing true tenacity in the face of adversity each time they have stepped on the court.

On Feb. 10, the Thunderdome at Highline College bore witness to an intense showdown between the Highline College men’s basketball team and their rivals from Green River College. The atmosphere was great as supporters eagerly awaited the outcome of what promised to be a fiercely contested match.

However, despite the Thunderbirds’ valiant efforts, Green River College seized control early on, establishing a commanding lead throughout the game. The scoreboard reflected the challenges faced by Highline, with Green River College dominating each period. The final score stood at Highline College 55, Green River College 81, marking a tough loss for the Thunderbirds.

Nevertheless, amidst the disappointment, standout performances emerged from key players on the Thunderbird roster. Rylon Donovan, with 15 points and 10 rebounds, showcased his versatility and determination on the court.

Amari Jackson and Keaine Silimon contributed six points each, demonstrating resilience in the face of formidable opposition. Despite the outcome, Coach Johnson praised the team’s drive and highlighted areas for improvement as they regrouped for future matchups.
