The women’s basketball team was back in action this past Saturday against Lower Columbia, the leader in the standings. Even though the Thunderbirds gave it their all, they were defeated 102-41.

During their Jan. 27 match, the meeting between Lower Columbia and Highline took place at Lower Columbia College in an away game. With an effective performance, the Titans demonstrated their superiority, and Highline was forced to recover and plan for their next battle.

The Thunderbirds showed strength in the face of hardship as they made an effort to defeat the fearsome Titans. But it was an uphill battle from the start, as Lower Columbia’s persistent defense made it tough for Highline to establish a rhythm. 

Highline encountered major obstacles during the game, despite the combined efforts of players such as Jesselle Victo Castillo and Anaiya Lewis, who demonstrated their attacking brilliance.

The Thunderbirds’ struggles were highlighted by the game’s statistics. Against a resolute Titans defense, Highline struggled with offensive efficiency, shooting just 22.6% from the field and 16.7% from beyond the arc. The club also struggled with turnovers, which made it difficult for them to mount a consistent offensive threat.

In Myklebust Gymnasium, 302 fans attended the game, where they saw two fierce teams engage in a hard-fought contest. Even though the result fell short of expectations, the squad learned a lot from the experience and identified areas that needed work as they progressed through the season.

The Thunderbirds promised not to let the defeat dissuade them and to gather strength and energy in order to tackle their upcoming opponents.

Looking ahead, Highline gears up to face their next foe, Pierce College, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m. (with results not available at the press time.) The team remains determined to bounce back from their recent setback, channeling their energy and focus towards securing a victory on their home court.
