Women’s volleyball advances to NWAC Elite Eight

Highline women’s volleyball secured their spot in the Elite Eight, as their journey in the 2023 NWAC Volleyball Championship Tournament continues to unfold with thrilling victories and remarkable performances.

After a regional playoff victory against Lane Community College, Highline secured a spot in the Elite Eight and now is gearing up for a highly anticipated quarter-finals clash against the number one northern seed, Columbia Basin College.

Throughout the regular season Highline’s roster showcased an impressive array of talent. Halle Garrity led the offensive charge with 245 kills, while Aspen Olsen contributed 219 kills, adding to the team’s firepower.

Madison Mamizuka’s exceptional skill in providing 980 assists and sophomore Tru Onisukia’s outstanding 495 digs underscored the team’s depth and versatility.  

In the regional playoff game against Lane Community College on Nov. 11, Highline displayed resilience and coordination, securing a convincing 3-0 victory with set scores of 27-25, 25-14, and 25-19. This triumph took them to the next stage of the tournament.  

Facing off against North Idaho College on Nov. 12th, Highline delivered a valiant effort in the second set with a 25-20 win after going down 21-25 in the first set. Although they fell short in the third quarter 15-25, the team’s performance showcased their competitive spirit and determination.

Highline’s journey in the tournament has brought them to the prestigious Elite Eight stage, where they are set to clash with Columbia Basin College. The quarter-finals match is scheduled for Nov. 17 at 8 p.m.

The match will be played at Pierce College (Fort Steilacoom campus in the health education center), which promises an intense battle as both teams vie for a coveted spot in the semi-finals.  

As Highline continues their quest for glory, the team’s collective effort, skill, and camaraderie have captivated supporters. The upcoming game against Columbia Basin College is sure to be a highlight of the tournament, and supporters eagerly await the outcome as Highline aims for further success on the volleyball court.
