Highline women’s volleyball is back to their winning ways

In a thrilling match at Highline College, the Highline women’s volleyball team emerged victorious against their fierce rivals, Pierce women’s volleyball, with an impressive scoreline of 3-0. The game showcased Highline’s undeniable skill and secured the top position in the NWAC Western Conference.  

During the match, which took place on Nov. 3, the Thunderbirds displayed an exceptional performance, overpowering Pierce in all three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-19. 

Leading the triumph were standout players Halley Garrity and Chelsea Velez, who demonstrated their skills and contributed significantly to the team’s success. Garrity secured a notable nine points, while Velez showcased her versatility with an impressive 14 points and 13 digs, solidifying her position as a key player for Highline.

With this recent victory, Highline has further strengthened its position as the leader in the NWAC Western Conference, boasting an impressive 11-1 record. Their unwavering determination and consistent performance have set the bar high for their competitors and solidified their status as a formidable team in the region.  

In an exclusive interview, Halley Garrity, a freshman from Westview High School, shared her insights on the team’s upcoming matches and the influence of their recent successes on their preparations. 

“I can’t wait for our next couple of matches, especially going to NIC for regionals,” said Garrity. “It will be exciting to face a strong team we haven’t encountered before.”

She highlighted how the team’s recent achievements have motivated them to intensify their practice sessions and incorporate new skills into their gameplay.  

When asked about her personal goals for the remainder of the season and their alignment with the team’s objectives, Garrity emphasized the importance of discipline both on and off the court.

“A personal goal for me is to ensure I am disciplined and focused, making sure I am in the right position and executing my strongest plays to contribute to the team’s performance,” she explained.

She further elaborated on how discipline resonates with the team’s primary focus, emphasizing the positive outcomes that arise from maintaining a disciplined approach.  

As the season progresses, Highline College women’s volleyball continues to display their dedication and determination, leaving supporters and competitors alike in awe of their unwavering spirit and exceptional talent. With their sights set on future triumphs, Highline remains poised to leave an indelible mark on the North West Athletic Conference.
