Highline women’s volleyball dominates in Olympia and Tacoma showdowns

The Highline College women’s volleyball team showcased their dominance in their recent away games against South Puget Sound College and Tacoma Community College. 

These games highlighted outstanding performances by several players and solidified Highline’s reputation as a powerhouse in collegiate volleyball.

In their first game against South Puget Sound College on September 29, 2023, Highline displayed exceptional teamwork and skill, winning with a clean sweep of 3-0 (25-8, 25-23, 25-14).

The standout player of the match was Aspen Olson, the team’s captain and outside hitter. Olson was an offensive force, contributing 11 kills with an impressive hitting percentage of .450. She also chipped in five digs, showcasing her versatility on the court. Olson’s outstanding performance earned her the MVP title for the game.

Unfortunately, Aspen Olson declined to comment on her feelings about playing against South Puget Sound College and what the head coach had said.

Highline continued their winning streak in their second away game on October 4, 2023, against Tacoma Community College. With the momentum from their previous victory, Highline defeated Tacoma Community College with another clean sweep of 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-15). This victory improved their record to 20-2 and 4-0 in the conference, solidifying their position as a top contender.

The player who shone in this game was Sonya Fa’amalele, the middle blocker for Highline. Fa’amalele demonstrated her prowess at the net, contributing seven kills with a remarkable hitting percentage of .500. She also played an instrumental role in blocking and defense, tallying five blocks. Fa’amalele’s all-around performance earned her the MVP title for the second game in a row.

Highline’s head coach was impressed with the team’s performance, noting that their consistency and determination were key factors in these victories.

The Highline College women’s volleyball team now sets their sights on further success as they continue their season. All eyes are into the next game on Friday, October 6 against Centralia at 6 p.m. at home.
