The women’s tennis team won 8-0 in a home game against Treasure Valley Community College last Saturday and earned wonderful records with the outburst performance of Jocelyn Nguyen.

“The match against TVCC gave us an opportunity to start to solidify our doubles pairings for the upcoming championships. One huge highlight has been freshman Jocelynn Nguyen who has come out in the second half of the season as the most aggressive doubles player on the court. She is dynamic and fun to watch when she takes over-the-net play,” Head Coach Laura Rosa shared.

The team was pressured by the opponent’s team at first, despite scoring amazing points.

“This past weekend we faced off against Treasure Valley Community College. We were pushed harder than the final score of 8-0 showed,” said Coach Rosa.

Also, even though the TVCC’s team was short in players, and there was an adjustment, they still played with a competitive attitude. They got the Thunderbirds at a slower pace and it took through doubles to get back on track.

“They were short one player so we adjusted the format of the match to still be competitive. TVCC plays a slower game than us and it took us getting through doubles to adjust to the different pace of the ball. Overall I was pleased with the performance of the T-Birds,” said Coach Rosa.

HIghline is currently at second place on the leaderboard, along with the most noticeable records: Riley Cordova won and is first in doubles with a score of 8-4 and comes in at the number two position in singles with a score of 6-1. Mia Rosa is in the number one position in both singles and doubles in conference play with 50 percent in wins. Celeste Parker is in the second position in singles by pulling off a huge upset win against the four-year National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics member Lewis-Clark State 6-4, then went 6-0 in the last conference play.

Coming up, the Lady T-bird tennis team will travel to Idaho for a match against Lewis and Clark State College. Then, Spokane will be their next destination for the next conference match.

“Next up we will be traveling across the mountains to play four-year NAIA opponent Lewis and Clark State College. They run a terrific program and it will be a great opportunity for our team to compete against some more experienced players. The following day we will travel to Spokane for our second meeting of the year. We beat them several weeks ago but we know better than to be too confident, especially on their outdoor home courts. Of course I am hopeful for a victory, but the beauty of sport is that we will not know the outcome until the match is played,” said Coach Rosa.
