Highline has recently launched the Aviso project where students gain access to one-on-one help with staff, faculty, and other resources throughout their education.
Aviso is a web-based tool where students can find a network of resources available for them at Highline, Interim Associate of Guided Pathways Elizabeth Word and Executive Director and Chief Information Officer Tim Wrye said.
“This web-based tool strengthens and streamlines student access to their academic records and campus information. And your success team can easily connect you with campus resources,” they both said. “The goal of implementing this tool at Highline is part of our Guided Pathways work to help students connect to faculty and staff advisors and resources.”
Although the name is not an abbreviation for anything, the tool was bought from another company, Word and Wrye said.
“… it was the name of the original product we purchased, and is a short and memorable name,” they said. “The software has been purchased by a new company and is now officially called Watermark Student Success and Retention (SS&E).”
Word and Wrye also said that Aviso will allow students to connect with their advisor and financial aid, take a closer look at their courses, carry out assigned tasks, and plan out the next steps in their degree.
“With Aviso students are able to:
· Schedule appointments with advising and financial aid (more offices to come)
· Contact your advisor and support team.
· View current course information.
· Manage advising to-do items assigned by their advisors.
· Develop academic plans with your advisor or on your own using templates provided,” they said.
Looking at the future for Aviso, students will be aided in any help they need from the start and end of their time at Highline.
“During spring quarter, we are implementing a new module in the system to help us better support prospective students, and communicate with, track, and support students from application to enrollment,” they both said.
The program has the support and commitment of many faculty and staff members at Highline, including Wrye and Word, who have helped build the project.
“There are lots of people involved in configuration and support of Aviso, including representatives from Academic Affairs, IT Services, and Student Services,” they both said. “Right now, Liz Word, Dean of Instruction for Guided Pathways, and Tim Wrye, Executive Director of IT Services and CIO, co-lead the team. All full-time faculty and many other employees utilize the system to help support students.”
